Great book for those who gained weight late in life

My weight problem was always the reverse of what Jeni Starr addresses in this book. I was always slim and never had a problem with being overweight. In 2007 I stopped smoking and gained 30 pounds almost immediately. That didn't bother me because I was slightly underweight.

But, to my horror, I didn't stop gaining! I am in my sixties and my active life has slowed down. Now I feel I need to lose weight to look slim and trim as I used to. This has affected every facet of my life! I don't feel attractive and have discovered that I would rather stay home than go out. I don't like the way I look!

Jeni's book is helping me to change the way I see myself. It isn't easy to make changes in lifestyle, especially at my age, but with people like Jeni and others, I believe I can do it. Attitude is everything here.

First comes the acceptance that Jeni talks about, then...well, get the book and read it for yourself. You won't be sorry. I am glad I found this book. Plus Size Confidence (The Plus Size Girls Guide to...)

Just what I needed.

I've struggled with my weight my whole life. It has always been something I've been ashamed of and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't lose weight. While this book isn't going to teach you to lose weight, it does something way more valuable! It teaches you to love your body and have confidence in yourself!

One thing I've seen time again is that if you can't love yourself when you are plus sized, even if you lose weight you won't love yourself like you think you will.

Reading this book has helped me so much. I've shifted my mind from losing weight to striving for health and happiness. This book may be $0.99, but the confidence you will gain by reading it is priceless. You are awesome Jeni!

How to be a Plus Sized role model to yourself!

This book is a little GEM! Going to follow her practical and straight forward suggestions right away.

In my 50 years I have been a chubby teen, a slim Model, and a yo-yo dieter adult who despite exceptional career achievements, still had to 'be slim' to feel good about myself. Then I lost the war with thyroid problems over a decade ago, and just have never been able to feel as confident again as I used to. Image and appearance matter to me, and I feel like I failed something very fundamental in life.

It has definitely affected the quality of my life, and has been detrimental to getting any real pleasure in my achievements over the past few years, and lowering my expectations of what I anticipate from the future.

There are definite step-by-step strategies to follow in this book to boost your self image and confidence, no fluff here. Written in doable chunks and not overwhelming. A very straight-forward how to improve your confidence guide with self help exercises and sensible strategies that everyone can follow, not just plus-sized people.

I'm a self help buff from way back, and I can tell immediately from reading this book that if I follow these steps they are effective enough to help turn me around from being the Plus Sized hermit that I have become. I just needed someone to hold my hand at this particular instant in time and take the journey with me for the first few steps - Thanks Jeni!

Haven't dated for 12 years, so was intrigued to read that the next book coming in the series will be about plus sized dating!

About the Author
Ban P. Wong, CEng, MIET, is Director of Design Methodology at Chartered Semiconductor, Inc. He holds five patents and is the lead author of Nano-CMOS Circuit and Physical Design (Wiley).

Franz Zach, PhD, is Senior Director at PDF Solutions, where he is involved in integrated yield ramps at advanced technology nodes.

Victor Moroz, PhD, is a Principal Engineer at Synopsys. He focuses on semiconductor physics, including silicon process integration, teaching undergraduate and graduate students, and developing process simulation and DFM tools.

Anurag Mittal, PhD, Yale University, has co-developed the world's first truly CMOS-compatible Flash technology. He has several papers, invited talks, and patents to his credit. Currently he is Director of Technology & Applications at Takumi Inc., where he is developing novel EDA solutions on Design for Variability & Reliability.

My order never came in. When I placed this order, I read the reviews and believed my order would come in just as quick as the others. After 2 weeks, I knew something was wrong bc I have never had problems with Amazon or the sellers. I emailed textbookie many times and although the response was quick, it was not the one I wanted. I had to end up paying $60.00 for another book bc I almost failed a summer class waiting for this book that never showed up. I would not purchase from them again... only order if you are not desperately needing the item you are purchasing. You may not get it.

Betty Davis Jones RN, MA, CMA (AAMA), is chair of the Department of Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy, and Health Promotions at Gaston College in Dallas, North Carolina. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Medical Assistants, the North Carolina Society of Medical Assistants, the Gaston County Chapter of Medical Assistants, and the North Carolina Association of Medical Assisting Educators. Mrs. Jones is a registered nurse and a certified medical assistant (AAMA), and she holds a master of arts degree.

Pleasantly surprised

Never have I ever rated a textbook as they are usually boring and required reading. However, at the end of my rental period I will be purchasing this book. It is the most helpful medical/anatomy book I have ever used. It's extremely clear, organized, and straight forward.

Since the original publication of When to Sell in 1977, which was cited by the New York Times as one of the two or three best books ever written on the stock market, Justin Mamis gets the phone calls asking "how do we know when to sell?" Of course these phone calls come after the market has gone down. When prices are up, investors should be looking for "when to sell". Indentifying tops -- the emotions that accompany tops, the indicators that say it is a top, the stock actions that warns that it is getting to be time to sell - these are the meat of the book When to Sell. This book was completely rewritten in 1995 and now includes a new foreword by the author. Although many specifics have changed since the original book was first published over twenty years ago, there are also many consistent verities that need to be repeated. It still takes just as long to make a top, the same sort of failures can be identified whether one is dealing with American Buggy Whip or Microsoft and it still requires both patience and belief -- patience to wait for a big enough top to form and belief that it really is a top and thus has become time to sell.

About the Author
After serving as Assistant Director of the NYSE Floor Department, Justin Mamis founded and edited The Professional Tape Reader in 1972, selling it in 1977 to its current editor with thoughts of retirement. Instead he spent several years as an "upstairs" Member-Trader for Phelan, Silver, an NYSE specialist firm and subsequently settled into his roles as market advisory letter writer, forecaster, and philosopher on behalf of Wertheim & Co., and then Gordon Capital. He then became Senior Vice President and Chief Market Technician at Hancock, where he wrote his weekly Mamis Letter. Quotes from the Mamis Letter appear frequently in Barron's and The Wall Street Journal and his often heretical and usually grumpy comments can be heard from time to time on CNBC. Among his credentials he has been voted for several consecutive years to the Institutional Investor "All-Star Team" in the categories of Market Timing and Market Technician. Justin continues to write his market letter and do forecasting and philosophizing.

How do I know when to sell?

That's the big question. Sell too soon to lock in a small profit and you watch the market go on in your direction without you. That hurts because if you only waited you could have that bigger profit. Or maybe the market turns and you look like a genius?

Sell too soon and you end up with a small loss that prevents you from a much bigger loss. Or does the market turn and your small loss would have turned into a big winner?

This book goes into detail about when you should sell and when you should sell short. I have read many books on trading and this one covers those points in more detail, with more clarity, than all of the others combined. The large majority of books only talk about buying, usually in a bull market. They almost never tell you specifically when to get out of those positions, or if they do, they give a generic profit target like "2 or 3 times your initial risk". How is that good advice? They have no idea of the market that day or of your entry point. I consider myself to be pretty good at entries, almost surgical in precision, so I can use a smaller stop loss to know if the position is going to work. I would go broke if I stuck to "2 or 3 times my initial risk", my winning trades usually go much further and my initial risk is usually very small.

Justin Mamis goes into the psychology of holding positions. He talks about how one professional trader told him "The public is most comfortable when they are sitting with losses". I read that and instantly knew he was correct. I have seen it in the past in my trading. I would be sitting there with a huge profit and I was nervous as hell. Then the next day I was sitting there with a big loss, and I was not nearly as nervous. How is that even possible? To me the loss was easier to accept because I rationalized it as a loss without giving thought to the size of the loss. Holding the winner is tougher because I was focusing on the size of the winner and did not want to close the position at a profit and leave money on the table. Leaving money on the table would turn that huge winner into a loser for me because I was not getting all of it. This is a tough business. Taking profits should not be so draining on your emotions.

Justin explains his thoughts about how the stock market is an ideal arena for ones emotions. You have all the elements of reward and punishment, and many people carry lots of guilt on their shoulders, so losing money in the markets is therapeutic for them. It's sad, but it's probably closer to being true than to being false.

The author goes into detail on market analysis and technical indicators and how to use them. He focuses on price action, but shows you how to use indicators if you need them. Justin talks about news items at tops and bottoms and tells you how to recognize when you are near tops or bottoms. That information alone is easily understandable and more than covers the low price of this important book.

Cornerstones of Theory and Practice

Investors in general and beginning investors in particular are largely ignorant of the works of perhaps the most important men they could read, one of whom is Justin Mamis (another is Richard Wyckoff). This is due at least in part to the fact that most of the works of these two men have been out of print for so long. But three of Mamis' works are now back (cross your fingers for When To Buy, the only one still out of print) and increased profits are a virtual guarantee for anyone who takes advantage of this opportunity to obtain these foundation works and commit their lessons in strategy to his own plan for trading and investment.
Very highly recommended and cheap at the price.

About the Author
Carlos Pestana, MD, PhD, is emeritus professor of surgery at the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. Ranked #1 in his medical school class, Dr. Pestana has a doctorate in surgery from the University of Minnesota and did a 5-year surgical residency at the Mayo Clinic. He has received over 40 teaching awards and prizes for teaching excellence. In the early 1990s he was a member of the Comprehensive Part II Committee of the National Board of Medical Examiners that designed what is now the clinical component of the USMLE Step 2 exam. Dr. Pestana is also the author of Fluids and Electrolytes in the Surgical Patient, which has been translated into Spanish, Italian, and Greek.

All you need

This is all you need to do well on the shelf exam. I usually averaged around 79 or 80 on shelfs- nothing special. But surgery was my second highest score- I got an 86. All I did was read this book twice (it's short so you better be able to pretty much recite it) and did the 100-150 or so UWorld questions for surgery. And of course pay attention on rotation. But I didn't like start studying from the beginning of the rotation or anything like that. I'm just a middle of the road medical student. Excellent book

Great book that saved me on the surgery shelf

Highly recommend this little book. This was the only guide I used to study for the surgery shelf exam - I read the entire book and did all the questions in the back - and I got a 91% in the nation on the test. I did not use any other study materials. Highly recommended!

Surgery Rotation Survival Guide

If you're in Medical School or PA School and have an upcoming Surgery Rotation, or if you're a Surgical Intern, please buy this book. This book has almost everything you'll ever need to stay on your toes when the Surgical Attending pimps you out in the OR or out on the floor with tough questions. You'll look forward to getting pimped because you'll know so many of the answers. This books is so good, and its imparted knowledge so useful, it's almost like cheating. So stop wondering how you'll survive your Surgery Rotation. Buy some coffee. And read this book. You won't regret it.

About the Author
March is co-founder of Aquarius Workshops, Inc. and Aspects magazine. She lead a busy life of counseling, teaching, lecturing, and writing.

Born and raised in Chicago where she majored inart and worked as a model and illustrator for an art studio, she moved to the Los Angeles area in 1948 and continued her professional career in the sales field. This is where she met her husband Dean and raised their children.

Self-taught, Joan began her serious study of astrology in 1965 and in 1969 studied with Ruth Hale Oliver. About this time she started to counsel and teach astrology. She has since achieved an international reputation as a teacher and lecturer, speaking for many groups in the U.S. and Canada. An AFAN coordinator and mamber of NCGR, her articles have been published in several national and international astrological magazines.

Overall Useful and Helpful But Too Brief

Learning about oneself and others is usually the basic reason most people choose to learn astrology. Consequently, we can say that next to Natal Astrology, Relationship Astrology is one of the most popular branches of astrology. I would, therefore, expect a thorough and more thought provoking exploration of the topic by these two seasoned authors. Unfortunately, this is the one volume in their series that I am not that crazy about, even though it contains some very useful information and I am glad it's a part of my library.

The book essentially begins with a look of the first house and seventh house dynamics in relationships. The first house representing you and your persona, and the seventh house representing what you seek in others. The book covers Aries through Pisces Rising, with their matching seventh houses containing Libra through Virgo Rising. Each overlay is given a brief explanation of traits and more focus is given to examples of people who have those house positions.

For instance, for Aries Rising, the authors comment on Princess Margaret's and Queen Elizabeth II's first house dynamics. But when discussing the seventh house, they change focus and use Barbara Streisand to explain their insights. None of the overlays are given too much thought and this is the first text where their brief writing style is too brief. A more valuable approach would have been to discuss Princess Margaret's and Queen Elizabeth II's first house and how their seventh house needs worked with their first house persona and needs. Essentially, greater depth should have been given to the examples chosen rather than numerous examples to explain their brief synopses

While this text contains a few good insights, and covers a broad range of topics, the coverage is very sparse in some areas and leaves me hungry to learn more and feeling annoyingly underfed on the information for the topics discussed. In fact, I think this book better serves you if you have some knowledge on relationship analysis and just need a few good burst of insights to add to it.

Core topics are divided as follows: House Positions: 1st and 7th; Chart comparison; The Composite Chart; and Putting it all Together (case studies). The authors are very good at chart analysis and their synopsis of the Princess Diana and Prince Charles relationship is pretty good. The authors also compare their charts to each other. As always, the greatest strength of this book series is the wide range of topics that are presented and applied to numerous chart examples. However, brevity didn't do justice to this text and a little more expansion of their topics would have made this book an overall better read. In general, I recommend this book and I do like it, but it might be frustrating to a novice who doesn't have much knowledge on synastry and composite charts and wishes to learn the ins and out of how to compare two charts or how to look to their own natal chart for insights on relationship needs and dynamics.

Good book!

The Only Way to Learn About Relationships

It's widely known that Marion D. March and Joan McEvers were both two "nuts-and-bolts" astrologers. They liked to explain concepts and ideas in the most simple way, so that pupils, astrologers or readers (as myself) can understand and find their own way to practise. This book is, again, an application of this concept of simplicity. You will not find there hard explanations, but simple ideas that mark you a way and you decide if you take it or not (or gon by the middle way).

This book provides an astrological answer to an universal question: "Is he/she good for me?". Of course you have to master the previous books; but if you do, this book is a good start point to "play with two charts" from different people. Till now you have watched charts from one person: progressions, solar o lunar revolutions and its relationships with natal chart. Now it's time to see how two destinies become interleaved. I guess if you enjoyed the previous books, this book will continue the fun.

Each entry offers a definition of the condition and an explanation of associated symptoms, causes and testing techniques. The authors provide treatment options for each problem, including homeopathy, hydrotherapy and "Super Seven Prescriptions" (specific remedies mostly involving dietary supplements). Although some readers may wonder why almost as many pages are devoted to "dizziness" as "cancer," the entries do provide a helpful overview of common therapeutic approaches and include journal references, though it appears only some of the recommendations are supported by published studies. The basic book that you need in your home

I received this book as a gift from a company who sell me vitamins. It is easy to understand and follow the prescriptions. It describes the treatment for many illness, recomended food, detoxification and also offers alternative cures using aromatherapy, homeopatic and acupressure. I love this book and If were possible I would give it more than five stars.
